How do you read?

It was an inevitable clash between religion and the Son of God, recorded in Luke 10:25-29. It is interesting to note that Jesus did not ask the religious expert "do you read?" or "what do you read?", but rather "how do you read?" An immediate reading of the passage reveals the reason - a wrong motive behind a seemingly God seeking question from a religious person.

But do not look at the story from the outside, get into it and think. Today Jesus asks you and me the same question. Oftentimes the issue is not whether we read the Bible, but the motive behind. Do you read as an obligation or a habit? Do you read to justify yourself or to condemn others? Do you read with a lofty attitude, as one who knows it all? ... or do you come in humility to the word of God, with fresh expectation and desire to find life-changing truth?
